Not professional advice
Ask Shorty is an informational and educational reference tool. It doesn't replace the official National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), the judgment of a licensed electrician or engineer, or the rulings of your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
Don't rely on Ask Shorty alone to design, install, inspect, or sign off on electrical work. Verify every answer against the adopted edition of the code and any local amendments before you act on it.
Verify every citation
Each answer points to the NEC section it draws from so you can check the source. Confirm the quoted text and section number against your own copy of the code.
Code editions, local amendments, and AHJ interpretations vary by jurisdiction and change over time. A citation that's correct in one place or year may not apply to your project.
Calculations are estimates
The calculators give estimates from the inputs you enter and standard NEC methods. They may not cover every condition, exception, or local rule for your installation. Have a qualified professional review all calculations.
No warranty and limitation of liability
Ask Shorty is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose.
To the fullest extent the law allows, the developers aren't liable for any loss, injury, damage, code violation, or cost that comes from using or relying on Ask Shorty. You're responsible for all work you perform.
Safety
Electrical work can cause fire, injury, or death when done wrong. Only qualified people should perform electrical installations. When in doubt, stop and consult a licensed professional and your AHJ.
